Requirements and Opportunities in Magnetic Resonance Imaging Jobs

To administer a magnetic resonance image (MRI) scan, one must be a radiographer. Radiographers take x-rays of part of the human body and administer non-radioactive materials into patient’s bloodstreams for further tests and diagnostic purposes. While radiographer is a general term, they can specialize in MRI as an MR technologist. Overall in the United States, there are many magnetic resonance imaging jobs to be had, and the number continues to grow year by year.

If one wish to become a MRI technologist there are a few things he or she must keep in mind. An MR technologist must have proper affect in regards to both the patients’ physical and psychological needs. In other words, they must maintain unconditional positive regard in the face of the patient. Other skills needed would be mechanical ability and manual dexterity to work with the sometimes complicated MRI equipment. In addition to this work, a MR tech must also maintain a certain amount of physical stamina as they often spend long hours on their feet or have to assist in the lifting or turning of disabled patients. A MR technologist must also be willing and able to follow the physician’s orders to the letter and to be able to precisely follow any and all safety regulations that apply to themselves, the patients and their co-workers. In general, most full-time MR technologists work forty hours a week. They may, as with many other medical jobs, have evening, weekend, or on-call hours.

Magnetic resonance imaging jobs require formal training that often ranges in length from one to four years. The result of such training is a certificate, an associates or bachelor’s degree, the later of which is typically required for a teaching, training or supervisory position is desired. Typically a two-year degree will suffice. Entrance into a radiology program requires a minimum or a high school diploma or the equivalent thereof. As one can easily see, magnetic resonance imaging jobs are abundant and fairly easy to obtain. So, what are you waiting for? Change your career, and change your life!
